This article contains the latest information and frequently asked questions relating to Vocal De-Esser.
General Questions
Q: What is Vocal De-Esser?
A: In the world of vocal recording, painful sibilance can cut through an otherwise flawless take like a hot knife through butter. Until now, de-essing has felt more like a battle than a studio process. But not anymore.
Meet Vocal De-Esser - the new AI-powered vocal de-essing heavyweight that knocks out sibilance with scientific precision.
Q: What makes Vocal De-Esser by Auto-Tune different from other de-essing plug-ins?
A: Vocal De-Esser by Auto-Tune utilizes artificial intelligence that has been specifically trained on the human singing voice. This allows it to intelligently and surgically remove excessive sibilance in real-time while preserving the overall sonic quality of the vocal recording. The AI-powered processing is highly effective yet simple to use. Separate controls are provided to target both soft sibilants (like "S", "Sh", "Z" sounds) and hard sibilants (like "T", "Ch", "K" sounds). This tailored approach, combined with its low latency and native support for Apple Silicon, sets Vocal De-Esser apart as a powerful tool for quickly and easily taming harsh vocal frequencies in singing, spoken dialogue, and live settings.
Q: What can I use Vocal De-Esser for?
A: Smooth out harsh vocal sounds with the world’s easiest-to-use Vocal De-Esser plug-in powered by AI. Vocal De-Esser has been trained on the unique characteristics of the human voice to control sibilant sounds without compromising the performance or tone of your vocal tracks.
Sibilance refers to various unpleasant "hiss" sounds that can be created by the human voice. Too much sibilance can ruin an otherwise perfect vocal recording but removing it can be near impossible without affecting the overall quality of your track. Vocal De-Esser intelligently and surgically removes these harsh vocal frequencies quickly and easily, giving you more time to focus on creativity.
Q: What is sibilance and why is it a problem in vocal recordings?
A: Sibilance refers to the harsh, hissy sounds that occur when a vocalist pronounces consonants like "s", "z", "sh", "ch", and "t". These sounds are characterized by high frequencies and can become glaringly loud and distracting in a recording, especially if the vocalist is naturally prone to sibilance or if the microphone and preamp used are particularly sensitive to those frequencies. Excessive sibilance can make a vocal track sound harsh, fatiguing, and amateur, and it can also clash with other mix elements making it difficult to achieve a balanced, polished sound. De-essing is the process of taming these harsh frequencies to make the vocal sit better in the mix without sounding dull or muffled.
